Twelve months have flown by – with highs and lows, celebrations and disappointments, departures and reunions. 2009 was like no other year. It’s not easy to keep everything straight. That’s why WERDER.DE has put together a Green-White flashback for the end of the year. Werder 2009 from A to Z – to remember and smile. Today: Part T – W:

T - Tudor, Alexandru Dan: There are four minutes from 2009 that Peter Niemeyer would like to erase from his memory for good. In the Europa League home match against Athletic Bilbao in early October, the game had moved into its decisive stage. Werder were leading 2-0 and Niemeyer was subbed in for Philipp Bargfrede in the 60th minute. But just four minutes later Niemeyer had to leave the pitch for receiving his second warning from referee Dan Alexandru Tudo. Bremen ended up winning the game 3-1, after which Niemeyer said: "I have to apologise to the team. Thank god it had a happy end."

U - U 23: Klaus-Dieter Fischer was relieved just as much as Werder's U 23 team after the nerve-racking final of the third league. "That was the most wonderful defeat I have ever experienced," said Fischer after Werder's 1-0 loss - which did not get Bremen's youth team relegated since Ahlen also lost on the final game day.

V - Vin Rouge, le: When the old love calls ... "(Manager) Klaus Allofs called me and asked if I wanted to come by again. I didn't have to think too long about it," said Johan Micoud, who was a special honorary guest for the UEFA Cup home match against AS St.-Etienne on 12 March. "Le Chef" spent two days at his old stomping grounds at Werder Bremen and was received with a boisterous ovation by the fans at Weser Stadium. Micoud was happy to talk about his current past time - running a vineyard which produces an excellent red wine.

W - Weser Stadium: The comprehensive reconstruction of Weser Stadium into a pure football arena began in the summer of 2008 and made new steps day by day in 2009.
