Werder Bremen’s final training Saturday afternoon in freezing temperatures finished without any big surprises. Just as Thomas Schaaf had said on Friday, the Werder head coach has nominated the same team for the North Derby against Hamburg as midweek in Bilbao save for the injured Clemens Fritz.
After a training-free day on Friday, Claudio Pizarro was back on the pitch on Saturday. "The break did me good. And now I am looking forward to the game against Hamburg," said the Peruvian striker on the way back to the changing room. Pizarro hopes to increase his goal total against the Reds. "I have nothing against improving my ratio. It would be nice to score again against Hamburg," added Pizarro, who has scored more goals against Hamburg than any other team in the Bundesliga. All told, he has struck 11 times against Hamburg though just twice for Werder. Pizarro is confident that Bremen will remain undefeated on the road this season. "I believe that if we play as concentrated as we did in Bilbao that we have the quality to win the game. It will certainly be a hard fight. But I have a lot of faith in the team," added Pizarro.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf has nominated the following 17 players after the final training session: Wiese, Mielitz, Naldo, Mertesacker, Prödl, Frings, Marin, Özil, Hunt, Almeida, Rosenberg, Niemeyer, Pasanen, Borowski, Jensen, Pizarro, Moreno
