Poised, confident, cool: Werder extended their unbeaten streak in international action to 10 games and secured first place in Group L with a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbo at legendary Estadio San Mamés. The draw for the Europa League Round of 32 will take place on Friday, 18 December 2009 at 1 p.m. in Nyon.

"There are only strong teams left in the competition. We will just take whatever comes as a surprise," said Werder captain Torsten Frings looking forward to the Europa League knockout stages. But Frings admitted that a German-British showdown would be very interesting. "I have never played against Liverpool in my career. That of course would be a classic," said the captain.

Head coach Thomas Schaaf also knows about the strength of the remaining teams. "There are just no easy opponents left. The question is only if we are drawn against a well-known team. We will have to prove ourselves again. But we are very happy at the moment to have completed the group," said Schaaf. "We would love to return to the final and win it this time. So we just have to beat everybody," added keeper Tim Wiese.

K.O. stages await

By winning their group, the Green-Whites know they will first play the first leg of the Round of 32 on the road on 18 February 2010. A week later - on Thursday, 25 February 2010 - Werder will play their first international match at home at Weser Stadium in 2009. In addition to the Round of 32, the draw on Friday will also fix the pairings for the Round of 16, which will be played out on 11 and 18 March 2010.
