The Basque region was anxiously awaiting the showdown between the two super star strikers Fernando Llorente and Claudio Pizarro. But Bilbao’s coach Joaquin Caparros had bad news for his team’s fans on Tuesday morning as he said the Bilbao striker had back pain and was one of five players who will not be available for Wednesday’s game. Besides Llorente, Iraola (grippe), Gurpegi, Castillo and Koikili (all injured) cannot play against Werder Bremen. Caparros’s Bremen counterpart Thomas Schaaf meanwhile must not deal with as many injury concerns. But the coach said his team in Bilbao will be put together mindful of the crucial North Derby in the Bundesliga against Hamburg on Sunday.

"This game has a very positive setting. Both teams are already qualified and both will be playing with a positive feeling. Bilbao want to push forward in front of their home crowd and our game is also characterised by our offense," said Thomas Schaaf before the up-coming Europa League game against Bilbao.

And Schaaf’s words were confirmed by his Spanish colleague. "With Werder, we will be facing one of the best teams in Europe. But for us, it’s a good opportunity to grow in Europe. We have our sights set on a victory," said Capparos. But that’s the case for Werder as well. "Bilbao will really be attacking here. But we are also an offensive-minded team. We will hold our own and shape the game. And of course we want to win this game," said Claudio Pizarro, who hopes to play again.
