Post-Schalke means pre-Bilbao. Thomas Schaaf’s team does not have much time to relax. "We have gotten over the game on the weekend and are now focusing on the next encounter," said the Bremen coach. The final training before the Green-Whites’ departure for the final group match of the UEFA Europa League in Bilbao took place on Monday afternoon. And not on the training grounds was centre back Naldo.

"He has a slight problem with his knee so we had him receive treatment," said Schaaf about his missing Brazilian. But the 27-year-old defender will be making the trip to Bilbao with the team. "He will be there tomorrow," said Schaaf, who would not reveal details about his line-up for Wednesday’s game. "We still have one more training tomorrow and don’t play until Wednesday. There is still time. We have to see how every player is and how their performances are," added the Werder coach.

In addition to Sebastian Boenisch, who will be having knee surgery on Tuesday in Straubing and will likely not be available for an extended period of time, Philipp Bargfrede also could not train with the team on Monday. And Christian Vander completed only a light individual workout as he recovers from groin surgery.

After the final training session on German soil, head coach Thomas Schaaf nominated the following 18 players: Wiese, Mielitz, Naldo, Fritz, Mertesacker, Prödl, Frings, Marin, Özil, Hunt, Almeida, Rosenberg, Niemeyer, Pasanen, Borowski, Jensen, Pizarro, Moreno
