While Tunisian Aymen Abdennour has trained with the Green-Whites since Tuesday, there was an additional buzz Thursday afternoon as Juan José Barros was also on the pitch. The 20-year-old Peruvian with a Colombian passport took part this past summer in the South American U20 championship in Venezuela and is currently under contract with Peruvian top flight side Coronel Bolognesi. The quick central striker will take part in Werder training over the next couple days.

Looking ahead to the up-coming game against Schalke, Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf discussed his personnel situation at a press conference on Thursday. "Philipp Bargfrede and Christian Vander will not be available this weekend. Marko Futacs is out due to illness. However, Mesut Özil, Aaron Hunt and Dusko Tosic all are back in team training," said the coach. After getting over their grippe and a couple days of recovery, the trio are all available for the coach's game roster.

"With Claudio Pizarro we still have to see if we can think about him maybe taking part in normal team training. The things he has been doing have gone well," said Schaaf. In the afternoon, though, it was clear that Pizarro is not yet far enough along. The 31-year-old took part in individual training with physiotherapist Stefan Wolters. And neither the coaching staff, the board, nor Pizarro would say for certain when the striker will return to team training.

Werder's final training takes place on Friday, 11 December 2009 at 3 p.m.
