Out of bed and onto the pitch: The sickened trio of Mesut Özil, Aaron Hunt and Dusko Tosic completed an individual training session on Wednesday morning with fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel. Christian Vander attempted his first bit of walking after undergoing groin surgery. "I can only go a couple minutes. I can’t do any more at the moment," said the 29-year-old backup keeper. The only player not on the training grounds was Philipp Bargfrede as the 20-year-old can only go through individual training. And there is no prognosis for him yet regarding the upcoming Schalke match.
After missing Werder’s last two matches, it is likely that Tim Wiese will return to the Green-Whites’ goal this weekend against Schalke after he was able to practice again today. Head coach Thomas Schaaf did not want to say just yet if Claudio Pizarro can make his return to action already on Saturday. "There is a chance that Claudio can train again freely with the team tomorrow. We have to bring him back step by step and we will see the next couple days if it’s enough," said Schaaf.
Wednesday also saw guest player Aymen Abdennour mix it up with his teammates for the first time. Schaaf feels confirmed after the first impressions of the young Tunisian. "He is active and has shown what we saw in him from the start. We have to see now if that fits with us," said the coach.
Werder’s next training is Thursday, 10 December 2009 at 3 p.m.
