The lights are lit ... then it must be a Christmas party in the Weser Stadium business lounge. For the third time since 2007, Werder invited their official fan clubs to celebrate a special "Christmas Evening" with Frings, Marin, Mertesacker & Co., the training staff and the board of directors. Some 500 representatives of 206 fan clubs took up on the invitation for the Monday evening event, which included gingerbread and stollen together with their stars.

The spectrum of discussions was very broad. "From childhood experiences under the Christmas tree to shopping and holiday tips - those were some of the fun topics far away from the everyday topic of football," said Sebastian Boenisch, who went to a number of tables to talk to the fans. The coaches and board of directors also had to ask the fans' questions. One of the fan clubs' lists of questions wanted to know why Marko Marin is always only allowed to play 60 minutes. Manager Klaus Allofs' answer that he only has a part-time contract brought about plenty of laughs. Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf offered a dry answer: "The table who asked this question should please leave the hall immediately."

"This year we laid under the Christmas tree the German Cup and now a 23-game unbeaten streak. And we hope the streak continues for some time," said Allofs. And captain Torsten Frings spoke for his teammates in thanking the fans for the unbelievable support in this extremely tough year. "The support everywhere in Europe that you made us feel consistently throughout the year in every stadium always gave us an extra push. Without you, the success would not be possible. I wish you all a Merry Christmas," said Frings.
