Werder Bremen goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz is close to making his Bundesliga debut. He was the only keeper on the pitch for the Green-Whites’ final training session Saturday afternoon before the trip to Cologne. German international keeper Tim Wiese had to sit out once again with a grippe infection and first backup keeper Christian Vander is out for the long term with adductors and groin problems. Werder’s fourth-string keeper Felix Wiedwald played on Saturday in the U23 game at Erzgebirge Aue and will travel to Cologne later Saturday and sit on the bench in Cologne on Sunday.

"Sebastian will be between the posts tomorrow. With him we have a strong replacement for Tim Wiese. He showed in the Europa League game on Thursday that he is a very good young keeper who believes in himself, is always active and does not shy away from things," said head coach Thomas Schaaf about the 20-year-old.

Also not back into the roster is Philipp Bargfrede, who has not overcome his knee problems.

Besides Wiedwald, who will travel later from Aue, Schaaf on Saturday nominated the following 17 other players for the Bundesliga game: Mielitz, Naldo, Fritz, Mertesacker, Boenisch, Prödl, Frings, Marin, Özil, Hunt, Almeida, Rosenberg, Niemeyer, Pasanen, Borowski, Jensen, Moreno Martins.
