Before Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf answered any questions about the game against Nacional Funchal, he took the microphone to send Get Well wishes to his coaching opposite Manuel Machado. "The little information which has been made public about his situation indicates that he is not doing too well. We had a couple games against each other and we want to send him Get Well Soon wishes. It would have been nice to have welcomed him and his team here in Bremen. But we hope that he can get back to the sidelines as soon as possible," said Schaaf. The fate of the Portuguese coach was the overwhelming topic on the day before the game. According to Portuguese media, Machado underwent an operation in which there were complications. Those led to him going into a coma. The Portuguese team will be led by assistant coach José Augusto Araújo at Weser Stadium.
