Second-placed Werder Bremen may continue to be without Claudio Pizarro and Tim Borowski, as head coach Thomas Schaaf told journalists on Wednesday. About Pizarro, Schaaf said: "Claudio is in Munich at the moment. But we hope that he can return to training this week." Schaaf did not mean team training though, talking much more just about individual workouts. That would leave a Pizarro appearance on Saturday at Freiburg all but ruled out.
Borowski also cannot think about a return to team training at the moment. The 29-year-old is currently labouring with a knee meniscus muscle strain which he suffered in the last game against Borussia Dortmund. Torsten Frings and Peter Niemeyer meanwhile showed slight improvements. Both completed individual running drills without any big problems. The Werder captain Frings intensified his program with fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel. In addition to the usual running drills, the 32-year-old Frings underwent his first sprints and drills with the ball. Niemeyer practiced twice hoping for his comeback on Thursday.
