Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro will miss the next few days of training with a foot injury. The Peruvian received treatment Thursday morning at Weser Stadium but flew hours later to Munich to see Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt. “We want to use all options to get him back on the pitch as soon as possible. For that he will continue his rehab for one week in Munich,” said head coach Thomas Schaaf. It remains unclear if that is enough time for Werder’s most dangerous striker at the moment to be ready for the game at Freiburg. “We just have to wait and see how it looks at the end of next week,” said Schaaf. “It really hasn’t gotten that much better as I hoped. I don’t know if I can be back in one or two days. That’s why I’m flying to Munich,” said Pizarro before his departure.
The Bremen coach also has to do without injured Tim Borowski (pulled knee meniscus), Peter Niemeyer (toe), Christian Vander (abdominal muscle pull) and Torsten Frings (torn muscle)
On the pitch – if not still banged up – was Marcelo Moreno (broken cheekbone), who completed individual workouts with fitness trainer Yann-Benjamin Kugel. Hungarian junior international Marko Futacs also was on the pitch despite a foot injury which is not 100 percent fit and was the reason for calling of his participation in training camp with his national team. “After talks with the coaches we agreed that it was better to stay in Bremen and practice with the team,” said the 19-year-old.
