Despite a number of playing under way for national team duty, many Green-Whites found their way back to training. Torsten Oehrl returned to training from his thigh injury. Also back on the pitch was Marcelo Moreno as the Bolivian completed an individual workout away from his teammates with fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel. "Marcelo can only practice alone at the moment. He has to avoid all bodily contact and that will be the case the entire week," said head coach Thomas Schaaf about the state of his striker.
After some good showings, a sensational third place at the U20 World Cup and then an injury, Marko Futacs was also a sight for sore eyes for the fans watching practice. In addition, 17-year-old talents Florian Trinks and Lennart Thy as well as 19-year-old Onur Ayik also took part in practice with the professional team. And to the surprise of the fans on hand, Markus Rosenberg and Naldo also were at training. Naldo leaves for Doha and the Brazilian national team on Wednesday, 11 November 2009 while Rosenberg will stay in Bremen until the end of the week. On Wednesday 18 November 2009, he will play for Sweden against world champions Italy in Cesana.
Besides those returning, there are also injured players out. Tim Borowski (pulled meniscus) and Peter Niemeyer (toe) could not practice with the team. Claudio Pizarro and Christian Vander were also not on the training grounds. Schaaf said Pizarro could return soon, adding: "Claudio is getting better day by day. Christian Vander will still miss a couple days with his abdominal muscle pull," said Schaaf.
