The Bundesliga is taking a break, but many of Werder's stars will still have to play. No less than 11 Werder players have left Bremen to head to their respective national teams.

Among them are five heading to the Germany national team camp in Bonn, where German head coach Joachim Löw is preparing for the up-coming test matches against Chile on 14 November 2009 in Cologne and against Ivory Coast on 18 November 2009 in Gelsenkirchen. With the quintet of Per Mertesacker, Marko Marin, Mesut Özil, Tim Wiese and Aaron Hunt, Werder make up the largest block of the German team along with Bayern Munich.

Aaron Hunt is with the national team for the first time. "I am really happy of course about the nomination and I hope that I can also play," said the 23-year-old Hunt. Keeper Tim Wiese meanwhile has been very strong recently and has already been guaranteed to play in the game against Chile in Cologne. Besides the five German senior side members, Philipp Bargfrede was nominated for the U21 Germany side's European Championship qualifiers on 13 November 2009 in Northern Ireland and four days later in San Marino.

Werder striker Markus Rosenberg was initially nominated by the new Swedish national team coach Erik Hamren for the test match against Italy on 18 November 2009. The successor to Lars Lagerbäck will be giving his definite answer regarding Rosenberg on Tuesday 10 November 2009. The Green-Whites' other Scandinavian was also called by his nation as Daniel Jensen has been nominated for Denmark's two test matches against South Korea on Saturday 14 November 2008 and versus the United States on 18 November 2009. Marko Futacs meanwhile is in training camp for the Hungarian U21 national team for the up-coming test match against Italy.

Brazilian centre back Naldo was nominated by national team coach Carlos Dunga for the Selecao side for their friendlies against England on 14 November 2009 in Doha and three days later against Oman in Muscat.

Hugo Almeida meanwhile has two hugely important games coming up as the Portuguese striker has left for Lisbon where the first of Portugal's two World Cup 2010 Play-Offs against Bosnia-Herzogovina will take place. The return match will be played four days later in Zenica to see if Hugo Almeida and Portugal can book their ticket to South Africa.
