Werder Bremen's group opponents in the Europa League all had fine showings before the final international match break of the calendar year, all three collecting three points for a victory in their domestic leagues.

 

After struggling in October, Athletic Bilbao won their second time in a row in the Spanish Primera Division, beating Racing Santander 2-0 to improve to eighth place on the table. Austria Vienna won 1-0 at home against Sturm Graz to remain in second place of the Austrian Bundesliga, two points behind leaders RB Salzburg. And in Portugal's top flight, Nacional Funchal knocked off last placed Leixos Matosinhos 4-2 to jump to fourth place in the standings.
