There is an extra attraction on Sunday for all football fans in Bremen. The new boat dock at the west grandstands of Weser Stadium will be dedicated before the game against Borussia Dortmund and in full operations. Up to 4,000 supporters can take the idyllic and traffic-free way to Weser Stadium. That means as many as every tenth spectator can ride one of the six ships in use to the Weser shoreline - just some 250 yards from the centre circle away - and make their way to their seats. Riders can board at the Martini dock in downtown Bremen, at the Waterfront am Hafen shopping centre (Pier 2) and in Vegesack (reservations are needed from Pier 2 and Vegesack).
Werder board chairman Klaus Allofs raved about the new attraction during a test ride with journalists on Friday. "A dream has come true. We have often stood at our windows and looked out over the Weser and talked about how we should take better advantage of this possibility. Now we have reached that point and it is really wonderful. I have already gotten a travel schedule and I hope that our spectators share my excitement and also use this offer," said Allofs aboard the "Oceana" - the fleet's largest ship, which will take up to 700 guests to the stadium.
Fans will have to pay for rides (return tickets from Martini dock cost 3 €, Pier 2/Waterfront 5 € and Vegesack 8 €). But there are negotiations on-going to include the rides within the VBN public transportation tariff so that supporters already with Werder tickets can use this travel opportunity.
