After Werder midfielder Tim Borowski scored to make it 1-0, Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese raised his gloves in front of his face. Unbelievable. He had 80 minutes of hard work keeping Werder in the game, and then the Green-Whites turn the game around for a surprisingly easy victory in the end. "I would have been satisfied with one point here because Vienna was the better team. It was a lucky victory in which we had a lot of chances but did not do much with them until just before the end. Usually you lose this kind of game. But with our luck right now, that isn't happening," said Wiese openly, adding that he would gladly do without the nerve-racking games. "We have to finally stop this lacklustre football. We cannot fall back to the old times. We have to play more wisely and not as open," said the keeper.
His team-mates heard Wiese's words and were nearly apologetic to their keeper. "He had two or three really great stops. That was the Tim Wiese how we all know him," said goal scorer Hugo Almeida. And head coach Thomas Schaaf offered the following analysis: "That was surely not our best game. It was not our intention to give our opponents so many chances. We were dedicated in the back but things just didn't fit well. And up front we couldn't figure out a way past the compact Vienna defence. Things got better in the end and we created some chances. It was a positive how the team avoid losing points." And Werder manager Klaus Allofs added: "It's nice that we will spend the winter break still in the German Cup and now the Europa League as well. Now we have to work on getting first place in the group. We have to push forward and cannot lose our eagerness. But at the same time we can try out some new things."
