Ahead of the second German-Austria duel between Werder Bremen and Austria Vienna on Thursday, 5 November 2009, WERDER.DE spoke with Sebastian Prödl.
Hello Sebastian. Since the first Werder-Austria Europa League game in Vienna, Austria have lost two of three league matches and dropped to fourth on the table. Will the Green-Whites have an easy game on Thursday?
No, I don't think so. You cannot compare their games in the Austrian league to an international match. Thursday's game will be an entirely different match for Austria. Therefore we have to go into Thursday fully concentrated on the game and we cannot underestimate them.
In Nuremberg, Werder showed some unusual weaknesses on defence. In the end the team was lucky to have collected a point. What does the team have to do better on Thursday against the Viennese?
We have to be concentrated right from the beginning and cannot be careless. Of course, every team that we play against wants to end our streak. But we have been warned from the first game and go into the game full of confidence.
Do Austria, in your opinion, still have a chance to advance from your group?
Of course, it will be very, very difficult for them. If they lose the game tomorrow then they cannot advance without help from others. Then they have to rely on other teams.
How important would it be for you to be in the roster on Thursday against your compatriots?
Of course it would be very nice. But it's going to be tight. Even if I am not on the game squad I will be in the stadium and watch the game. And since I know some of Austria's players from the national team very well, I will also surely stop by their hotel on Thursday.
