Werder Bremen captain Torsten Frings will miss the next few games with a torn muscle. Medical tests Sunday morning confirmed the initial diagnosis on Saturday as Frings had to be substituted out of the game at Nuremberg. "He will now miss some time. But we will do everything we can to keep the break as short as possible," Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf said Sunday, underlining the importance of the team leader. "He has given his all and has really played a very good season," added the coach.
The game at Nuremberg did not bring about any other injury concerns. However, also missing from Sunday morning's training for those players who did not play on Saturday or were subbed in was Claudio Pizarro. The striker was still suffering from an ankle bruise and compression. "He will surely need some more time. But there is hope that he can maybe be available on Thursday. But we cannot judge for sure right now," said Schaaf.
