Werder Bremen were given a tough task in the draw for the German Cup quarterfinals. The Green-Whites have a home match in the only all-Bundesliga match-up of the final eight against Hoffenheim. The quarterfinal games will be played on 9-10 February, 2010.
"Games against Hoffenheim have really been something special of late. So I am happy for our fans that they can experience this game in Bremen. Everyone knows that it will not be an easy task for us. But we are defending champions and we are confident enough to say that we want to prove ourselves in this game as well and reach the next round," said Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf about the draw.
"Until now we have looked good against second division teams. But it was clear that a real highlight would eventually come. And the games against Hoffenheim always promise something special. Of course we will have the confidence that we comfortably beat Hoffenheim recently in the Bundesliga. And if we want to hold the cup in our hands again, then the way has to go through Hoffenheim," said Bremen vice captain Per Mertesacker.
The other three quarterfinal match-ups are:
Osnabrück - Schalke
Bayern Munich - Greuther Fürth
Augsburg - Cologne
The final eight round will be played on 9-10 February 2010. The winners will reach the semi-finals, which are planned for 23-24 March, 2010. And the 2010 German Cup final is scheduled for Saturday, 15 May 2010 in Berlin's Olympic Stadium.
