Werder Bremen once again make the trip to Nuremberg on Saturday, October 31, 2009. The 2007 German Cup winners Nuremberg have returned to the Bundesliga after one season in the second division. And with eight points after 10 matches, Nuremberg currently rank 16th in the standings.

"We don't have any problem with being in the role of favourites. You can tell just by looking at the standings. For Nuremberg, this season is about avoiding relegation," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf, who added: "They can make things difficult for anyone. We cannot let ourselves overestimate them due to the past results. They are a harmonic collective with good players, and the results just aren't working out yet." There is also a former Werder player amomg Nuremberg's ranks in Denni Diekmeier, who was trained in Werder's performance centre until 2008. The 20-year-old right back has performed well thus far in Nuremberg.

Among the key players for Nuremberg are goalkeeper Raphael Schäfer, Alexander Wolf, Javier Pinola and former Bundesliga scoring champion Marek Mintal. But the Slovakian has not scored a Bundesliga goal since the first game day against Schalke. Mintal's problems typify the team's biggest problem area as Nuremberg have scored just seven goals this season, including their 3-0 win over Hertha Berlin. "Against Berlin they were very dominant," said Schaaf, who reminded his team of the tough task ahead. "We have to continue to keep our defence strong and really keep them busy up front. We want to get them into trouble and force mistakes. Then we will be successful," said the coach.
