Head coach Thomas Schaaf announced Thursday that strikers Marcelo Moreno and Torsten Oehrl will both miss the weekend Bundesliga match at Nuremberg. “We have two more injured players after our cup match who we cannot take with us on the weekend,” said Schaaf. “Torsten Oehrl suffered a corked thigh. And as it turns out, Marcelo Moreno’s facial injury was actually a fractured cheekbone. The South American will undergo more detailed examinations today. It does not look like at the moment that he will need an operation. But he will definitely miss a few days,” added Schaaf.
The current injury problems have Bremen in big problems offensively when one considers that Hugo Almeida (still building up training after appendectomy surgery) will miss the Nuremberg game and Claudio Pizarro (ankle) is a big question mark as well. “Hugo Almeida will not yet be on the game roster against Nuremberg. He is not yet fit enough for him to play his game consistently, which we would need. So it doesn’t make sense for us to bring him with only for a couple of minutes. Claudio is also very questionable. He feels better but it is not good enough yet. We definitely have to wait for the final training on Friday before we make a decision,” said the coach.
