Werder Bremen's unbelievable German Cup home streak continued against 1. FC Kaiserslautern as the Green-Whites have now won 33 games in a row on the grass of Weser Stadium. And the Bremen players were obviously satisfied after the 3-0 victory over Kaiserslautern in the Round of 16. "That was just how I had imagined it," said manager Klaus Allofs after the final whistle. "We showed the right willingness to run and scored the first goal right away. The team did their job convincingly."
Head coach Thomas Schaaf was also pleased with his team's showing. "We knew that Kaiserslautern had played a good season until now. That made it all the more important to be concentrated going into the game. From the first second on we dominated the game. I am very satisfied with the showing of my team," said Schaaf. Clemens Fritz agreed with his coach. "Putting Kaiserslautern under pressure right from the start was the key to success. We have worked really hard the last few weeks. If we keep going like this, the road to Berlin is not that much longer," said the 29-year-old Fritz.
The fact that Werder were facing "only" a second division team did not mean a thing for Tim Borowski. "All three of our past opponents are good enough to play next season in the first league. You saw yesterday how difficult it is to play against teams like these. We were well prepared and wanted to reach the next round. I am really happy that things worked so well for us today," said Borowski, who added that the Green-Whites' dominance in the air was the key to the victory.
