Tim Wiese has a devilish past. From 2002 to 2005, Werder's number one keeper played with Kaiserslautern. After the final training ahead of the German Cup highlight, Wiese spoke with WERDER.DE about his relationship with the Red Devils.
Is the game against your former club still a special game for you?
Yeah, sure. I grew up as a footballer there. In my first game against 'Lautern, we lost back then (2-0 on 11 February 2006, eds). Now I want to win.
Kaiserslautern are coming to Bremen with plenty of self-confidence. How big are the chances for a surprise?
It's clear that they want to win. But we are too good for that at the moment. We have a very good run right now and we absolutely want to reach the next round.
Do you still have regular contact to the team?
Only to the coaching staff. I talk on the telephone every now and again with Gerry Ehrmann (Kaiserslautern goalkeeper coach).
The last German Cup match between 'Lautern and Werder dates back to the 2003 semi-finals with you in goal for 'Lautern, who won 3-0. Do you still recall this game?
Barely. But that was the time when Werder always was changing their keeper ... (grinning).
At the moment, Kaiserslautern are in second place in the second division. Do you think they will earn promotion this season?
There is still a long way to go. Let's wait and see. But I hope so.
