Werder Bremen’s final training session before their away match in Bochum finished without any surprises as the full squad for the game was available. Recent returnees Sebastian Prödl and Hugo Almeida took part once again in training but are not yet far enough along for a spot in the game squad in Bochum.
"A nomination for Sebastian and Hugo would be too early. They just returned to training a couple of days ago. We first have to see if they can handle the increased workload," reasoned head coach Thomas Schaaf about not nominating Prödl and Almeida
The Bremen players appear to have put behind them the disappointing 2-2 draw at Austria Vienna during the week as the atmosphere during the final training was good. Schaaf’s team heads to the Ruhr River region looking to extend their 14-game undefeated streak. "We want to improve on the mistakes we made on Thursday. We have to play better and just have the right physical attitude," said defender Per Mertesacker. His colleague in the back line, Naldo, added: "We were not concentrated enough in the second half in Vienna. We learned from that game and have to play better over the full 90 minutes in Bochum." After the nearly one hour long training, Schaaf nominated a smaller than usual squad for the Bochum match.
Werder Bremen will travel to Bochum with the following 16 players: Wiese, Vander, Naldo, Fritz, Marin, Özil, Pasanen, Borowski, Hunt, Frings, Pizarro, Niemeyer, Mertesacker, Marcelo Moreno, Bargfrede, Boenisch
