Andreas Herzog is a former Werder player and an Austrian - that makes him a perfect expert to talk to ahead of the Europa League game between Austria Vienna and Werder Bremen. WERDER.DE spoke with the current Austrian U21 national team coach about the exciting German-Austrian showdown, insults from opposing fans and where is heart is.

Hello Andi, are you going to be in the stadium when your former club Werder Bremen plays in your home town at Austria Vienna on Thursday?

No, unfortunately that won't be possible since I am working as an expert for Europa League games at the German television channel Sky. I will watch the game in the studio in Munich.

For what kind of opponent will Werder have to be prepared?

Austria played very well against Salzburg. But their problem is that both of the best strikers (Austrian Rubin Rafael Okotie and Czech Tomas Jun, eds.) are out months with injuries. Their most dangerous players are in the mid-field with Milenko Acimovic and Zlatko Junuzovic, the latter who scored the winning goal against Salzburg.

How do you rate the successful development for Werder this season?

The team is certainly playing more compact and their game is no longer so dependant on one player like Diego, who shined above everything else. But no one could expect that Mesut Özil would follow so directly in his footsteps. But Werder's advantage is that they do not only have Özil but also players like Hunt, Marin and Pizarro who can do many things offensively. And the stronger defence is a second important factor to their success.

And for whom are you rooting?

On the one hand I am an Austrian and a patriot. But on the other hand I was never so insulted in Bremen like I was in Vienna by the Austria fans. That was because I was coming from city rivals Rapid and had played there a long time. I will say it this way: My heart beats for my former clubs, for Werder and Rapid.
