A grippe infection has forced defender Petri Pasanen and goalkeeper Christian Vander to take a break from training on Thursday. The German national team players Tim Wiese, Marko Marin and Per Mertesacker meanwhile returned to team training is did Denmark’s Daniel Jensen and Swede Markus Rosenberg. The fourth German international on national team duty Mesut Özil was given a rehab and regeneration day after playing one half in Germany’s World Cup qualifier on Wednesday in Hamburg. At training, Wiese found himself in an unusual role. In the usual training game, he was inserted as a field player and even showed off his skills by setting up a goal for Peter Niemeyer.
Borowski? "The tendency seems to be no"
Tim Borowski was once again unable to practice due to his lingering back injury and will likely miss the Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim on Saturday. "With Tim we have to wait and see if he can go – but the tendency seems to be no," said coach Thomas Schaaf. Things look better, however, for Hugo Almeida, who could return to team training early next week. "He is taking running drills and we are continually increasing the stress. And we hope that he can come back soon. But it will still take a few days," Schaaf said.
