While Werder Bremen's current 16-man training group practiced with balls on Tuesday, Hugo Almeida had to work out without his favourite playing device. The Portuguese striker ran a few laps together with fitness training Yann-Benjamin Kugel.

It remains unclear when Almeida can return to team training. That is the same case with another problem child for Bremen as Tim Borowski was diagnosed with a lumbar spine laceration. "Things are slowly getting better. We have to be patient," said head coach Thomas Schaaf.

There is one more game for the four Werder players with the German national team before they return to Bremen on Thursday as they play the final World Cup qualifier against Finland in Hamburg on Wednesday, 14 October 2009. Schaaf said the following about Werder midfielder Marko Marin possibly playing in the final qualifier: "I am always happy when our players play. Marko has played well for us. And if he can show that in the national team as well, that is a good story."

The next training session for the Werder players will take place on Wednesday 14 October 2009 at 10 a.m. on the training grounds of Weser Stadium.
