Denmark qualify for South Africa
Denmark’s Daniel Jensen qualified for the 2010 World Cup thanks to a 1-0 victory at home in the penultimate group match against Sweden. Jensen did not make an appearance in the game as he deals with missing considerate length of time due to injury. His Werder teammate, Sweden’s Markus Rosenberg, did play however in the match. Bremen defender Petri Pasanen played the entire game in Finland’s 2-1 (1-1) victory over Wales in a mostly unimportant result. In South America, two Werder teammates faced off as Bolivia and Marcelo Moreno beat Brazil and Naldo 2-1 (2-0) on Saturday night. The Werder striker Moreno scored on a free kick after the half hour to make it 2-0. Werder defender Naldo did not play in his return to the Seleção. One positive for Naldo was a reunification with former Werder teammate and friend Diego, who was subbed in after halftime by coach Carlos Dunga. Naldo hopes to play in Brazil’s final qualifier against Venezuela on Wednesday 14 October 2009. The Brazilians have already booked their ticket for the World Cup with 33 points, which lead the South American qualifying group.
