The second goal went so fast that even the television cameras struggled to keep up. The fine passing between Mesut Özil and Aaron Hunt more or less decided the game as Werder Bremen knocked off Stuttgart 2-0. And the victory shows the blind understanding that Werder currently have within the squad.
"Aaron called out and I heard him and just played the ball over to him," said Mesut Özil about why he took so quickly the free kick on the left side, passing directly to a charging Hunt. Head coach Thomas Schaaf was quite satisfied with his team’s play. "We had an excellent performance. The team has developed itself. We built upon our game against Bilbao and played well and determined in the attack," said the coach.
And Bremen came up with that showing even though the Europa League victory over Bilbao cost quite a bit of energy. "e had a tough game on Thursday against Bilbao and heavy legs a bit. That makes us especially happy that we picked up three points – and that deservedly,"said Özil. And the strong performance was rewarded by Bremen’s current standing on the table as Werder jumped from seventh to fourth place. "That was a very important game today. We want to get up to the top. In addition, we put some clear space between us and Stuttgart," said manager Klaus Allofs.
And after the heavy load of the past few weeks, Thomas Schaaf is giving his team a day off – time for a much-deserved break. The next training will take place on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
