Werder Bremen remained undefeated on the road this season with a 2-0 victory at Stuttgart. Claudio Pizarro and Aaron Hunt scored the goals for Thomas Schaaf’s team. The victory extended Bremen’s overall unbeaten streak to 12 games.

The Green-Whites found the perfect start in Stuttgart as they jumped ahead after three minutes. Once again it was the strong off-season acquisition Marko Marin who set up the goal. Marin beat two defenders along the left side and crossed into the box where Pizarro proved his scoring abilities and headed home the opening goal. Werder dominated the game after that and had a good chance after 21 minutes, but Mesut Özil’s shot was blocked excellently by Jens Lehmann. And Bremen were lucky to remain ahead after the half-hour mark as Julian Schieber failed to take advantage of a fine opportunity, giving Bremen the lead 1-0 at the break.

Schaaf’s men started the second half just as perfect as they did the first. Özil sent a perfect pass to Hunt who beat Lehmann to the far right corner six minutes after the re-start. And just six minutes later, Marin had a chance to make it 3-0 but could not overcome Lehmann. Stuttgart had little to throw against the guests, who missed another opportunity to decide the game for good as Pizarro’s header was off target. But in the end Bremen did more than enough and Schaaf’s team improved to fourth place in the standings.
