German national team coach have nominated four Werder Bremen players – Mesut Özil, Per Mertesacker, Marko Marin and keeper Tim Wiese – for Germany’s final two World Cup qualification matches. The critical match likely to decide the winners of the qualifying Group 4 will be played against Russia on 10 October 2009 in Moscow. Four days later, the German national team will play against Finland in Hamburg. Bremen’s Philipp Bargfrede meanwhile was nominated for the German U21 team’s games against Slovenia on 9 October in Fürth and against Israel on 13 October in Frankfurt.
Werder defender Petri Pasanen was once again called for Finland’s squad for their World Cup Group 4 qualifiers at home against Wales on 10 October and on 14 October against Germany in Hamburg. Bremen defender Naldo hopes to get an appearance for the Brazilian national team after a two-year absence from the Seleção. Two Bremen players will face off in a South America qualifier on 11 October as Naldo and Brazil take on Bolivia and Marcelo Moreno Martins. And Werder striker Markus Rosenberg was nominated for Sweden’s World Cup qualifiers on 10 October against Denmark in Copenhagen and at home on 14 October against Albania.
