Werder Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf expects a very motivated opponent for his team in the away game against Stuttgart on Sunday, 4 October 2009 3:30 p.m. "Stuttgart were being criticised recently since expectations in Stuttgart were also high. The team does play in the Champions League after all. They will see us an opponent against whom they can prove themselves. And we have to know that," said Schaaf.
But Werder will be heading to Stuttgart with plenty of confidence as the Green-Whites are undefeated in the last 11 games. "The game against Bilbao showed that our team has improved greatly. They are playing very disciplined despite quite a few injuries," praised Schaaf. Naldo and company really passed well in the first half against Athletic and in the end won deservedly 3-1. "I saw a lot of positive things. But we can still do a lot better," added Schaaf. Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel also praised Bremen, saying: "Werder have a high quality. The team is made up of a good mix of young, talented players and experienced veterans," said Babbel.
Due to little regeneration time from participating in three competitions, Stuttgart players did not train on Thursday to catch a deep breath for their game on Sunday. "The guys should relax a bit and just shut down a while. Many of my players are not used to the three-day rhythm," reasoned Babbel. The main man to give Stuttgart their rhythm in the midfield will be missing against Werder as Aliaksandr Hleb is dealing with a muscle issue.
