One day after reaching the German Cup Round of 16 came further good news for head coach Thomas Schaaf as his midfielder Mesut Özil returned to team training for the first time in nine days. "He received treatment a couple of days but it looks good now. I hope that it stays the same for tomorrow so that he's available for Saturday.
The injury is a matter of stress so we have to be patient," said Schaaf at the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga home match against Mainz. "It does not hurt me today. Regarding the Mainz game, it looks good," said the 20-year-old, who has been dealing with knee problems.
Unavailable, however, is Hugo Almeida, who is labouring with plantar tendon inflammation. "I believe that Hugo can get back to running drills this week or early next week. We have seen improvement but it will take some time until he is available," said Schaaf. And regarding Daniel Jensen, the coach said: "It will take some more time. I don't see Daniel playing. He still has to be more intense a part of training until he can be part of the team."
