Both the awarded player and Werder’s sports bosses were a bit surprised with the honouring of Philipp Bargfrede as "Man of the Match" (given out by "So geht Bank heute"). It definitely was deserved for the Werder talent, who in the summer made the jump into the professional team. On Sunday, the hard-running and driven Bargfrede was honoured by journalists on hand for his fighting spirit in the 0-0 draw against Hanover. "For me, it is somewhat surprising," said Bargfrede, who was subbed out in the 73rd minute for tactical reasons in favour of striker Marcelo Moreno.
"It is really good how he has worked his way into the team and done his work. He has really given his all. But today he really just didn’t have an impact. He did not get his shots like we have seen from him in the past. But he continues to work on himself and develop," said head coach Thomas Schaaf. Manager Klaus Allofs agreed. "You cannot demand that he leads the team in a game like this. But he had an orderly performance. He was very active and energetic. You could see why he is so close to making this team," said Allofs.
