Werder Bremen’s German national team players can still dream of the 2010 World Cup after beating Azerbaijan 4-0. But for two other Werder players the hope of playing in South Africa is over with. Petri Pasanen played all 90 minutes for Finland against Liechtenstein, but the Finnish team was eliminated from possible qualification with a 1-1 draw in Liechtenstein. Marcelo Moreno Martins will also not be making the trip to South Africa next summer after Bolivia lost to Ecuador 3-1 on Wednesday. The defeat leaves Bolivia second-to-last in the South American qualification and now 10 points from fifth place, which would mean a play-off against a team from North, Central American and Caribbean.
Fellow Bremen internationals Hugo Almeida (Portugal), Daniel Jensen (Denmark), Sebastian Prödl (Austria) and Markus Rosenberg (Sweden) all still have hopes of reaching the World Cup. The final qualification game day in Europe takes place on 10 October 2009.
