Thomas Schaaf’s training group had grown slightly on Wednesday by comparison with the group participating the day before. As had been expected, Sebastian Boenisch, who missed out on Tuesday as he was away picking up an award for his part in the 'Under 21 European Championship' win, was back in full team training again on Wednesday. "It was a very nice event. The players from the current 'A' national team and the current 'Under 21' side were also present and we had an opportunity to chat. Aside from the national team coach, Mr. Zwanziger congratulated us personally once again," reported Boenisch on the 'Evening of Heroes' in Cologne.
Mesut Özil, who shared a room with Sebastian Boenisch during the 'Under 21 European Championship' competition in Sweden, remained behind in Cologne after the event, contrary to his team mate, as the German national team are momentarily there preparing for their friendly game against South Africa on Saturday, 05.09.09. Tim Wiese also put in an appearance on the training pitch in Bremen on Wednesday. Having suffered a bruised calf, the keeper just went through a light session of jogging but was not in action between the posts. Defender Naldo was also at the Weser Stadium today, but only for treatment on a foot injury which has proven to be not so dramatic.
On Thursday, Thomas Schaaf will make his way to Nyon, France to participate in a two day 'Forum for Elite Club Trainers' hosted by UEFA during which time the coaches of the top clubs in Europe will gather to discuss and debate changing trends within the game. Aside from Thomas Schaaf, such top trainers as Alex Ferguson (Manchester United), Arsène Wenger (Arsenal London) and Manuel Pellegrini (Real Madrid) will also be involved. From the Bundesliga, aside from Schaaf, FC Schalke 04 boss Felix Magath has also been invited.
