Werder Bremen have extended the contract with Martin Harnik for a further year and allowed the 22 year old to move to second division Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan until the end of the season. "We have made this decision because in recent weeks we have seen that it’s not easy for Martin to get into the team," explained Werder’s general manager Klaus Allofs.
Martin Harnik joined the Green-Whites at the beginning of 2006. Thus far, the youngster, who has won fifteen caps (two goals) with the Austrian national team, has made17 Bundesliga appearances for Werder and scored one goal. Harnik, who can be used both in the defence and attack, has also been involved in six European cup games for Bremen. The Hamburg born player has twice been in the Werder squad this season but didn’t play on either occasion.
