"In the first two or three minutes, FK Aktobe really set of some fireworks and there was immediately a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium," explained Clemens Fritz after the 2-0 win, and he went on to remark on just how important Claudio Pizarro’s early goal then was for Werder: "We were quickly able to come to terms with that and the we played out the game very convincingly, especially considering how many problems we had during the first leg."
With his side having now booked their place in the group stage of the UEFA Europa-League, trainer Thomas Schaaf said: "It was important that we straight away got a positive result in this game and quickly took the lead. Aktobe made an energetic start but we got the goal. That knocked the wind out of Aktobe and we were able to maintain our composure then for the remainder of the match," said the Werder coach.
Claudio Pizarro, who scored both goals, was delighted about the success: "Things are really going well for me right now but the important thing is that we won this game as a team and kept a clean sheet. It’s always good to score an early goal away from home. We knew that they were going to press forward, which left room for us to counter attack, and we made good use of that. Last year we were in the final and we want to win this competition now," said Pizarro, making the target for the Europa-League very clear.
