At 5:20pm local time (2:20pm CET), the Werder Bremen crew touched down in Aktobe. The programme for the Werder players began with a final pre-match training session at the Aktobe Central Stadium at 8pm. Head coach Thomas Schaaf and his opposite number, Vladimir Mukhanov, first took time for the official pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa-League Play Off return leg, which will be played on Thursday evening.

"Werder are a world class team. It will be a difficult task and our chances aren’t great but we are up for the fight. We know that we are capable of scoring goals but it certainly won’t be easy," explained the home clubs coach. Werder trainer Thomas Schaaf remarked on the strengths of the side from Kazakhstan even before his team left Germany: "They play really good football and in the first leg we got to experience some of the quality that they possess, which means we will have to be wide awake in the return leg."
