With a little over three days to go before the return leg of the UEFA Europa-League Play-Off, Werder’s opponents, FK Aktobe, impressively tanked up on some extra self-confidence. In their home tie in the league, on the 20th match day of their season, on Monday afternoon, the current Kazakhstan double title holders crushed bottom of the table FK Kyzylzhar Petropavlovsk 6-1 (1-1). The rank outsiders managed to hold their own into the second half of the match, clinging on to a 1-1 at the break, against Aktobe, who are currently second in the table. FK are currently two points adrift of Locomotive Astana, but trainer Vladimir Mukhanov’s side have played three games less than Locomotive this season thus far and success in the games in hand would give them a comfortable seven point jump on the current leaders. But first up, the task at hand will be to trouble up-coming opponent Werder Bremen, in spite of the hefty defeat from the first leg of the tie.
