Off-season Werder Bremen acquisition Marko Marin was excited one day before facing off with his former teammates at Borussia Mönchengladbach. But he also was determined. "Of course I am happy to see the entire team again. We had a good season last year. And of course I am following their games and am happy when they get points. But the only thing that counts this weekend is that we win, regardless of who the opponent is. My first three games for Werder went okay. But the last one wasn’t – I know that. That can happen, but it cannot be repeated. I want to play consistently, so tomorrow as well," said the 20-year-old midfielder after the final training before the game.
Just like the last few days, Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf had to do without Sebastian Prödl in Saturday afternoon’s final training session. The Austrian international is not yet ready to play again with his knee problems. "I still have inflammation in my joint capsule, and there is still fluid in the knee which has to be taken out. But it seems to be getting better. I hope that I can get back next week. But I cannot say for sure. We have to wait and see how things develop," said Prödl.
Schaaf, however, did not have any other personnel problems ahead of the team’s second home Bundesliga match of the season. Against Gladbach, the head coach can call upon all of the players who were available on Thursday against FK Aktobe: Wiese, Vander, Boenisch, Pasanen, Naldo, Borowski, Fritz, Marin, Özil, Hunt, Frings, Almeida, Pizarro, Niemeyer, Mertesacker, Moreno, Bargfrede
