Former Werder Bremen player Max Lorenz is celebrating his 70th birthday on Wednesday, 19 August 2009. The long-time member of the Green-Whites and former German international was part of the Werder team that won the German Cup in 1961 as well as an important member of the legendary team which won the club’s first Bundesliga title in 1965. As chairman of the board of directors, Klaus Allofs congratulated Lorenz on behalf of Werder Bremen. "Max Lorenz was during his playing days an important part of Werder Bremen for more than ten years. He made a lot of fans and friends with his football skills as well as his friendly nature. We are happy that he overcame his health problems of the last couple years. And we wish him continued health and good luck," said Allofs.
