Claudio Pizarro is coming back to Werder Bremen once again from FC Chelsea. The Peruvian striker singed a three-year contract until 30 June 2012 with both clubs having an option for an additional season. The 30-year-old spent last season in Bremen on loan from the Premier League club and then returned to London, where he completed the season preparations for 2009-10.
"Our patience paid off. We were able to agree to a reasonable deal with Chelsea," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs on Monday. Neither club released financial terms about the transfer. Meanwhile, Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf was very happy about the move. "In Claudio, we signed a striker who we were missing. He showed last season with his extraordinary abilities and big game experience how important he is for our team," said Schaaf. Pizarro also expressed his pleasure on returning to Werder.
"I am very happy to be back here. Werder was always my first choice. Last year I felt really welcome in Bremen and would gladly have returned," said Pizarro. The Peruvian international scored 28 goals in 46 matches last season, playing a critical role in pushing Werder to final of the UEFA Cup and winning the German Cup.
