Werder Bremen will be without defender Naldo for their away match against Bayern Munich as the Brazilian is labouring with a pulled thigh tendon. His possible replacement Sebastian Prödl is also unavailable due to a yellow-red card suspension, meaning Finland’s Petri Pasanen could fill Naldo’s spot in the backline. "I have the necessary confidence for this job," said Pasanen optimistically looking forward to Saturday.
The vacant spot on the left side of the defence, meanwhile, could be filled by Sebastian Boenisch. "I feel good," said Boenisch on Friday afternoon. When asked if it was something special to play his first game of the season against Bayern, the outside defender was relaxed. "I would have liked to have played against Frankfurt. The schedule just happened to have it that we play against Bayern right away. It’s more important that I am fit again. I would have liked to have played against any opponent. We will all have to fight against Bayern. But I am confident that we will have a good showing and bring home something when we play as a team and we are all there for another," said Boenisch.
The following 18 players are on the roster for the game at Munich’s Allianz Arena: Wiese, Vander, Boenisch, Pasanen, Tosic, Borowski, Fritz, Marin, Özil, Hunt, Sanogo, Frings, Almeida, Niemeyer, Mertesacker, Harnik, Moreno, Bargfrede
