Werder Bremen will get their 2009/2010 Bundesliga campaign underway without the services of defenders Nalso and Sebastian Boenisch: "We had been hoping that they would return to training today but they both still have problems. We’ll have to wait and see how things develop and hope they will be able to return to full team training again tomorrow or at the beginning of next week," explained Thomas Schaaf after the final pre-match training session on Friday. Sebastian Prödl, who defended alongside Per Mertesacker throughout the final training session, proved that he is back to full match fitness, having recovered from a viral infection. "He was able to do a lot individually, he was just lacking a little practice. He has now been able to train intensively with us and has a recovered his feeling for the game, the challenges and his positional sense."
Schaaf has nominated the following 18 man squad for the game against Eintracht Frankfurt:
Wiese, Vander, Pasanen, Harnik, Fritz, Mertesacker, Prödl, Tosic, Niemeyer, Borowski, Frings, Marin, Özil, Hunt, Bargfrede, Moreno Martins, Hugo Almeida, Sanogo
