Shortly before the new Bundesliga season gets underway, Naldo has not yet given up hope of being involved in the opening game against Eintracht Frankfurt: "it was better today, I have no pain at all at the moment. Early tomorrow morning I have another appointment with the doctor and then a decision will be made as to whether or not I can play," explained the central defender. Should that not be the case, the coach has two alternatives in Sebastian Prödl and Peter Niemeyer. Over the past few days, not only Naldo, but also Sebastian Boenisch and Daniel Jensen were absent from the training pitch. Whilst the rest of his team mates were busy in team training, Markus Rosenberg went through an individual program with fitness trainer Yann-Benjamin Kugel.
On Thursday, Thomas Schaaf spoke of his anticipation ahead of the coming season: "On the whole I am satisfied with the team’s preparations. They worked very intensively and have come on bit-by-bit. They proved that in the last games," noted the coach. "We will reach top level through the up-coming competitive matches. Hopefully we can confirm the good impression we made during the cup game against Union Berlin. We are all excited and very happy that the league is about to get going."
