Per Mertesacker and more than 80 other celebrities have casted their vote – for the German Bundestag parliamentary election. They are featured in original commercials promoting the 27 September election, calling for full voting booths and against voter fatigue. The election spots will be broadcast on radio stations throughout Germany starting Wednesday. The action was started by the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) and is the largest election initiative in the country with the title "WonAIR – The Election in Radio".
Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker stars in three commercials for the election, and here is his message which will go over the airwaves over the next couple weeks:
"Hello, I am Per Mertesacker.
As a footballer, it means so much for me to play for Germany. And as a Democrat, it means so much for me to vote for Germany.
So, go and vote in the Bundestag election on 27 September. I will as well".
The celebrities’ election commercials are colourful in content but do not favour a specific party. All the celebrities are supporting the project voluntarily, trying to bring more democracy.
