Head coach Thomas Schaaf on Thursday asked mainly Werder players who had missed a part of preparations to participate in two training sessions at Weser-Stadion. Among those starting their day in the morning were U21 European champions Mesut Özil, Sebastian Boenisch and Marko Marin while Torsten Frings, Naldo and company began in the afternoon.

"Of course it was not optimal that I missed a couple of days of team training because of my ankle injury. But the positive was that I was able to run and work on my conditioning during that time," said Marko Marin, who was happy about the double shift of tackling and shooting training in the morning and an extended training game in the afternoon. Markus Rosenberg on Thursday trained individually and completed shooting and stretching drills. Martin Harnik returned for an easy running drill after missing all of Wednesday. "I had a classical virus. I'm better now and will be back tomorrow," said the Austrian international, whom did not get infected by compatriot Sebastian Prödl.

What remains unclear is when midfielder Daniel Jensen can return to his team-mates. "When I see where I was four days ago and how far I am today, then it looks a lot better," said the Danish international, who is dealing with Achilles problems. Jensen took part in an individual rehab session but could not say when he would return.
