Werder Bremen extended the contract with striker John Jairo Mosquera for two years until 30 June 2012 and then sent the 21-year-old on loan to second division side Union Berlin for two years until 30 June 2011. Should Union Berlin, however, get relegated to the third division, the loan contract will be terminated and the striker will return to Bremen.
The Colombian offered a convincing showing against the second division club during a recent test. "In John Jairo Mosquera we see a striker who has all assets to play in the Bundesliga. In order to take the next step in development and display his skills on a constant and high level he found in Union Berlin an ambitious club where he can show his offensive strengths. We are happy that he was able to confirm our assessments there over the last couple weeks," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs.
